Hannah's Writing Experience
Writing was never important in school. If you answered the question asked, you did it right. I never understood there was anything else to think about. My perspective on writing changed at the beggining of my Junior year when I moved to Great Falls. The Councilors signed me up for honors english because I had recieved nothing lower than an A at my old school because of its lack of higher level thinking. Little did I know that this class was about to change the way I understood writting. I was so far behind many times I considered dropping the class. I had never heard of diction, a thesis statment, transitions, or any of the other lingo. I improved so much thoughout the year. My final project in english was a research paper, and once again I found myself totally blind to any of its concepts or terminology but everything I had learned and improved upon helped me create an eight page research paper on Anne Sexton and specified on her importance as a great American Poet through analyzing her work. It was the hardest assignment of my life. (even worse than sceince fair!) Even though I have learned so much, there is still so much more room to grow.

This post reminds me of my first summer at LSSA (last year). I remember being so overwhelmed with all the work I'd have to do, but surprisingly I got through it, and it looks like you did too. English is actually pretty hard, with all the different syntax, literary elements, and rhetorical devices. Keeping track of it is very difficult for me. Your high school sounds like it's very good, especially the classes, if it's challenging you that much. You're sentence flow and writing style seems very natural. You must've learned :) Good job!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I hated when I had to do a research paper, because I would look all over the place and find crap tons of information that I didn't need. I just took me forever, and I felt like I would actually rather be doing the science fair where I could probably just blow up my project and get an A
ReplyDeleteGood Job not giving up! At first writing is hard but good thing you didn't quit.I truely understand you because i went through the same thing. But working hard leads you to success!! A research paper always leads you to be a stronger writer, because all the hard work you have to do.
