High School Writing Styles

In high school, we were required to learn the Jane Scheaffer writing style. This was all about three body paragraphs including concrete details and two commentary (CM) sentences pertaining to the CD (concrete details). We were forced to know it since freshmen year till you graduate. On the TAKS tests we used no such writing style; we were just told to write about what it asked. Which confused me considering our school was a TAKS prep school. No other tests I know ask for this writing style. Not the SAT, ACT, STARR, or our EOCs. So basically our writing styles were unorthodox. Although I thought it was pretty organized and sharp. It got the point across, easy to read, and structured the paragraphs in a way all teachers knew what to grade for. I think the Jane Schrieffer writing style should be used more often, but that's just me, a lot of other kids think it is pointless format. That is because they wont taking actual writing seriously and are frankly unmotivated.

  1. That is really confusing about the TAKS testing. A TAKS preparatory school should teach some type of writing style. I'm not too familiar with the Jane Schrieffer writing style. Could you explain that style to me? It might help me with my writing, which can be very disorganized at times.

  2. Okay, all these different writing styles are making my head spin. I do not know how you learned all of them. I personally find all the different styles the school systems makes us learn to write in is ridiculous. I'm confused on the Jane Schrieffer writing style.

  3. That happened on my TAKS also, the yearly essays were all the same but the TAKS essay was completely different. We werent requiered at my school to know any certain type of writing style but we did study a few of them. Thats seems pretty tough to know it all the way from freshmen to senior year

  5. ive found that the TAKS, PSAT, and ACT are all useless and only prove that one is good at taking standardized tests. i really hope that colleges take them out as necessary to apply beacuse they really are useless. i know that some colleges already have removed them as a requirement but i would like to see more start to do this.
